Meditation teacher and Buddhist professor
Julia Stenzel was born in the US and raised in Germany. Julia has pursued her interest in meditation, compassion, and Buddhist philosophy through an extensive exploration of Eastern contemplative training and Western academics.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Julia spent many years in intensive meditation practice in France under the guidance of a great meditation master. She then dedicated her energies to teaching and studying philosophy and Asian languages, earning a Masters of Arts degree in Religious Studies from University of the West in Los Angeles. Julia’s doctoral project at McGill University explored compassion in classic Asian literature and in Buddhism-derived secular compassion training. Her personal practice and philosophical studies give Julia the means to transmit the profound tenets of compassion in an accessible way. Currently an Assistant Professor of Buddhist Studies at Kathmandu University’s Centre for Buddhist Studies, Julia divides her time between Nepal, Germany, and North America.
