While practicing Western medicine as an internist and cardiologist, Dr Cynthia Thaik became interested in offering patients a more holistic path to healing. Rich with the knowledge and experiences gleaned at University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Cynthia practiced traditional western medicine for twenty years. After working through a series of personal crises, examining her own life events, and realizing she was living “all in her head”, Dr. Thaik transformed her life by making a point of taking care of her own health and well-being and practicing mindfulness. Inspired by her discovery, she opened a wellness center in Los Angeles and began exploring the kind of person-centered medicine she remembered seeing her mother, also a physician, practice in their native Burma when Dr. Cynthia was a child.
As a practicing Buddhist, Dr. Cynthia Thaik has first-hand experience of the power of meditation. She encourages her patients to train in mindfulness and use it as an integral component of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. As a cardiologist, Dr. Cynthia naturally focuses her healing arts on heart health. In her book Your Vibrant Heart: Restoring Health, Strength & Spirit from the Body’s Core, Dr. Cynthia helps readers understand that the heart is more than a physical organ as it represents our mental and emotional states. She instills in her patients inner calm and peace by educating and inspiring them to take proactive steps towards health and healing. She is a featured Mind Trainer in the course Mind Body Health and Harmony through Meditation.
